Production of Low-Cost Vaccines and Diagnostics

Objective: To eliminate preventable infectious diseases through the development and production of low-cost vaccines and rapid diagnostic test kits.

Strategies:

1. The manufacture of a meningococcal A, C, Y, W-135 vaccine.
2. The development and production of a meningococcal A, C, Y, W-135 conjugate vaccine.
3. The sale and distribution of rapid test kits for malaria, TB, and HIV.
4. The development and clinical testing of a stroke and epilepsy vaccine.
5. The development and clinical testing of a Hepatitis C vaccine.
6. The construction of a manufacturing and vial facility near JN's current headquarters.

This project is designed to address the growing need for biological products in developing countries, especially Africa. There is an increasing demand for meningococcal vaccines in developed countries, and unfortunately this demand has created a shortage throughout Africa. This is where the private sector and NGO must assure a major role. JN, with the help of charitable organizations and its worldwide business partners, will be able to provide low cost effective vaccines to prevent infectious diseases.

Geographic Scope:

Africa, South East Asia, South America

Milestones and Key Actions:

AFRICA:     Vaccine Division : Initial manufacture of 1-2 million doses of Meningococcal A, C, Y, W-135 polysaccharide vaccine completed at the end of 2007. Utilizing its newly completed facilities in Omaha, NE, JN hopes to complete the initial large-scale production of 2 million doses of its Meningococcal A, C, Y, W-135 polysaccharide vaccine. Clinical Research Trials: Clinical trials for Meningococcal A, C, Y, W-135 DT Conjugate vaccine Clinical trials going on in North Côte d'Ivoire and this meningococcal conjugate vaccine developed by JN for sale primarily in African children.  Diagnostic Division : Supply of 2 million Malaria, Tuberculosis, and HIV 1/2 rapid diagnostic test kits to West Africa: February 2007. JN has had a long-standing relationship with contract manufacture facilities in the US, which enables us large-scale production capabilities for rapid diagnostic tests for Malaria, TB, and HIV. It is our goal to supply two million diagnostic tests for Malaria, TB, and HIV to West Africa in 2007.
